As prep and training for San Gorgonio 9 Peaks backpacking trip, a bunch of us headed out on an early Saturday morning in May to Mt. Baldy. Mt Baldy aka Mt San Antonio sits at about 11,000 ft high and with about 3,600 feet of gain over 11 mi and took us approx. 8 hours to finish. We began from Manker Flats near the trailhead and opted for the hard/steep way up. This was an intense hike that was extremely challenging but since it’s the highest point in Angeles County, the view was worth every grueling second. I’d say it’s my favorite hike at the moment. The only bad part was coming down! After we made it over the backbone and into the village/ski area, the beauty dead ended. It was on an ugly dirt road for about the last mile or so and surprisingly, there weren’t too many on the ski lift, cheating.
